The Faculty of Physical Education, Sport and Kinesiotherapy has a duration of 3 years and is made up of two bachelor’s degree areas, in the form of full-time education:
- “Physical Education and Sport” with the specialization “Physical Education and Sports”;
- ” Kinesiotherapy ” with the specialization ” Kinesiotherapy and Special Motricity “.
For the master’s program there is the program ” Kinesiotherapy, Recovery and Tourism Recreation” which has a duration of studies of 2 years.
After graduating from the bachelor’s degree in the field of ” Kinesiotherapy and Special Motricity” and completing the master’s program ” Kinesiotherapy, Recovery and Tourism Recreation “, you will acquire some professional skills that will help you become a renowned physical therapist, such as: designing, organizing and leading specific activities to optimize physical development and activities to maintain the health of patients (children, adults, elderly); identifying and applying specific principles for solving patients’ problems, etc.
National University of Physical Education and Sport of Bucharest - Faculty of Physiotherapy
The first higher education institution in Romania, for the training of physical education and sports teachers, with a physical education profile, known since 2009 as the National University of Physical Education and Sport in Bucharest (UNFS) debuted in 1992 under the name of “National Institute of Physical Education”. The university meets the requirement of training specialists in the field of physical education and sports, professional training of performance athletes, coaches, teachers of physical education and pre-university education, managers in the field of sports, sports instructors, physiotherapists, etc.
The number of faculties is two, and luckily one of them is the Faculty of Physiotherapy, to which our attention is directed. This faculty is the only one in Romania that is focused only on physical therapy, being the basic field, and not just another discipline within the faculties of sport and physical education.
The study programs within the Faculty of Physiotherapy are bachelor’s, master’s and doctoral studies. The duration of the bachelor’s studies is 3 years, the master’s degree is 2 years, and the doctoral university studies have a duration of studies of 3 years.
"Alexandru Ioan Cuza" University of Iași - Faculty of Physical Education and Sport
The “Alexandru Ioan Cuza” University of Iași (UAIC) is the first higher education institution established in Romania, which bears the name of Prince Alexandru Ioan Cuza, the one who achieved the Union of Wallachia and Moldavia. Until its current form, the university was limited by laws of education.
Within this university, you can study physiotherapy in Romania, through the Faculty of Physical Education and Sport, which has in its composition within the bachelor’s program, the specialization “Kintic Therapy” with a full-time education form with the subfield “Kinetic Therapy and special motricity” (with a headquarters in Iași and one in Chișinău).
For the master’s program, there will be 3 subfields of physical therapy, such as: Kinetic Therapy in Sports Traumatology; Kinetic Therapy in Sports Traumatology in Chișinău and Republica Moldova and Physical Therapy in Geriatrics. All these have a duration of 2 years, and the form of education is frequent.
Transilvania University of Brașov - Faculty of Physical Education and Mountain Sports
Founded in 1948, Transilvania University of Brasov (UNITBV) is one of the most important higher education institutions in Romania.
As with the others so far, within the Faculty of Physical Education and Mountain Sports there is the specialization “Kinetic Therapy and Special Motricity” with an education form with a frequency and duration of studies of 3 years.
Admission for the ” Kinetic Therapy and Special Motricity ” program: admission consists of a mandatory medical visit and two tests (P1 – testing of general motor skills, P2 – written grid exam + average of the baccalaureate exam).
University of Craiova - Faculty of Physical Education and Sport
The University of Craiova (UCv) is a state higher education institution, founded in 1947 by King Michael I, being initially made up of only 4 faculties. Over time, it has evolved, adding to its composition university faculties: agronomic, technical and economic.
The Faculty of Physical Education and Sport is composed of the “Department of Physical Therapy and Sports Medicine”, which aims to train professionals in the sports medical field.
West University of Timișoara - Faculty of Physical Education and Sport
The West University of Timisoara (UVT) was founded in 1962, being one of the most outstanding higher education institutions in Romania, with a rich history. Over time, it has strengthened its reputation through internationally recognized programs, with a focus on the education and training of new students.
The Department of Kinetotheraphy and special Motricity is located in the structure of the Faculty of Physical Education and Sport and aims to prepare future physical therapists with professional skills to help patients to restore certain body functions or those suffering from trauma.
What is Balneophysiokinetotherapy?
In addition to the physiotherapy departments within universities, there is also an extension in the field of medicine that is called “Balneophysiokinetotherapy”. The difference between physical therapy and Balneophysiokinetotherapy is not very big, as both deal with physical recovery from traumatic events. Physical therapy is a part of physical medicine that deals with the neuromuscular and joint mechanisms that ensure human motor activities, and balneophysiokinetotherapy is concerned with medical recovery with the help of exercises combined with a series of techniques and methods used depending on each person treated.
