The West University of Timișoara is one of the higher education institutions in Romania accredited to organize the Romanian Language Preparatory Year. This course is dedicated to foreign students who want to enroll in a teaching program in Romanian, but do not have the necessary knowledge.

At the West University of Timișoara preparatory year follows the same structure as that of an academic year and prepares future foreign students by providing them with information related to the profile they will study (anatomy, physics, chemistry, technical drawing, etc.) as long as the study program is organized in Romanian. In order to benefit from the preparatory year, students must pay certain fees, such as the registration fee, and the fee related to the preparatory year.

According to the rules imposed by the University, the following categories of people are considered eligible for the preparatory program:

  1. citizens of the Member States of the European Union (EU), of the countries participating in the European Economic Area (EEA) and of the Swiss Confederation – those who possess the certificate of recognition of studies issued by the “National Center for the Recognition and Equivalence of Diplomas” (CNRED) and have been admitted to a university program taught in Romanian, but cannot prove their knowledge of the Romanian language by:
  2. Romanian study documents (diploma and certificates) or study documents, school situations attesting to at least 4 consecutive years of studies attended, in Romanian, in a school unit of the national system in Romania;

 

  1. certificates or attestations of linguistic competence of minimum level B1, issued by the accredited higher education institutions in Romania that organize the preparatory year of Romanian language for foreign citizens, by the lectureships of Romanian language, literature, culture and civilization in universities abroad/ Institute of the Romanian Language or by the Romanian Cultural Institute.

 

  1. Romanians everywhere: those who do not know Romanian, but are admitted to bachelor’s, master’s and doctoral studies;
  2. foreign citizens from third countries in relation to the EU: those who do not have Romanian citizenship or the citizenship of another EU member state, the European Economic Area (EEA) or the Swiss Confederation, but also citizens who apply for or have acquired a form of protection in Romania, foreign citizens holding a residence permit in Romania);
  3. foreign citizens with scholarships of the Romanian State.
